How to file the claim

Six things to bring, five steps to follow.

Nobody files it for you

Not escrow. Not the title company.

  1. Close both deals and move in.
  2. Get the right form from the assessor of the county where the new home is: BOE-19-B (55+), BOE-19-D with BOE-19-DC (disabled), BOE-19-V (disaster).
  3. Gather the checklist.
  4. File within 3 years of buying or finishing the new home.
  5. Keep copies of tax bills until the assessor confirms the new value.
